The area of the central plains looks like any other. The land is very flat, with only the occasional slowly rolling hills. In uncultivated lands sword grass is by far the dominant plant. Growing quickly in early spring, after only a few weeks the grass will be over a child’s head and before summer it can reach the shoulders of even the tallest man. The grass grows dark green in the spring, but as the rains stop it turns golden yellow and then brown until the middle of autumn when it begins to die leaving the plains barren and dusty until the snow begins. The most common tree dotting the plains are the panock trees. These trees tend to grow no more than 10 meters tall and the branches and leaves cover a wide area, and can provide a considerable amount of shade from the sun. The trees can grow individually, but often grown in small groups or even forming forests which support a large variety of life not found elsewhere on the plains. A large variety of bushes and shrubs can also be found scattered across the landscape, becoming so thick in some spots that it makes it difficult to pass without cutting your way through.
